Jack, A Lad In Confusion
Jack, A Lad In Confusion is a light-hearted fusion of two classic tales – Jack and the Beanstalk, and Aladdin. It’s a departure from my usual scribblings and so I’ll try not to include any horror elements or psychological shenanigans. Note I said try. I’m not making any promises.
It’s also a chance for me to get away from my usual writing style and try something new. How effective this will be I have no idea, but it’s always fun to try new things. I want to aim for a style akin to Jack Vance and his wonderful, amazing Dying Earth collection. If you have never read these stories, and enjoy fantasy sci-fi, then you should definitely give them a go, I highly recommend them. I wrote a piece about this and a tribute series called Songs of the Dying Earth a while ago which can be read here.
I’ll never be able to match Mr. Vance’s way with words but I’ll do what I can. Writing outside your ‘comfort zone’ is a good exercise, giving the ol’ writing muscle a good workout.
So, let’s see how it goes.
